Superior Vision Services, one of the largest managed vision care companies, was in need of a mobile app. With it, commercial members can search for an in-network provider and securely access their vision benefit details and ID card anytime, anywhere.
The Task

We were tasked to plan, design and build an iOS and android app enabling members to access their benefit details. This included insurance ID card, searching for and viewing in-network providers with details on what each provider offers.
The Challenge
Technical Rules & Restrictions, API Style
The current web portal dated in both presentation and functionality: not responsive, disorganized navigation flow, inconsistent IA. In addition there were two to three API’s available to access to spit out different member data, but no major updates would be viable at this time.
With API changes out of the question, our main focus was on making sure user needs were properly met, primarily by updating the IA.

Feature wise, the app needed comparable functionality to similar service providers. The new flow and structure needed to meet user needs as well as secure the apps place as an asset to the company as a whole.

Legacy code and outdated information architecture meant the app would have to provide a step forward from the current web version of the member benefits portal. We built the visual elements to work in conjunction with the reorganized IA, resulting in an app that serves as an example of what the web portal could become in the future.
